This waste is the foundation waste of the English spinner. It is free from deleterious matter and is a regular production of the steam filatures of China. The waste made by the reelers is thrown on to the floor and the gum dries and sets hard, forming " knubs " or unopened " steam waste," natives open these knubs with their teeth and fingers, hence the term " opened steam-waste." It is sold either " opened " or " unopened." -
